We are excited to announce a groundbreaking development in the mushroom farming industry. Singapore Finc, a subsidiary of Shanghai Finc Biotechnology, and OCM Group have teamed up to build the first smart factory for edible mushrooms in the U.S. Located in Houston, Texas, this state-of-the-art facility will specialize in producing enoki mushrooms, a popular and unique type of edible mushroom widely used in East Asian cuisine. The smart factory will use advanced, eco-friendly, and chemical-free methods, setting a new standard for sustainable mushroom cultivation.
This joint project between Singapore Finc and OCM Group will span 258,000 square feet and produce up to 50 tons of enoki mushrooms daily. The factory is set to open in 2024 and aims to reduce the U.S.’s dependence on imported mushrooms, which currently face rising costs due to supply chain issues. The market for specialty mushrooms in the U.S. is rapidly expanding, with the edible mushroom market expected to surpass $20 billion by 2028.
The Houston smart factory will be a crucial step in lowering costs and increasing local production, benefiting both businesses and consumers. As the first “smart” mushroom production facility in the country, it will utilize advanced technology to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Enoki mushrooms are known for their small, white, long stems, and are prized for their mild flavor and chewy texture. They are commonly used in East Asian cuisine and are typically grown in controlled environments. The U.S. market has been increasingly interested in specialty mushrooms like enoki, and this facility will cater to that growing demand with sustainable, locally produced mushrooms.
